Very good post, Jon! I plan on making a couple of zines when I get back home from vacation. I just bought a new printer with this in mind (as well as trying to make very small photo booklets as gifts for my friends). Thinking about photos and making them function as a connection to other people is the only reasonable creative act.

Really good post. The idea of playing god and hole-punching other photographers’ work, when you already control the work, and still decide to archive and keep it… it makes my head hurt. WHY???

Great challenge for your kids! Very exciting and useful skills to develop. Nice!

The “killed” negatives are a useful reminder of the propaganda purpose of the pictures. You can see why Walker Evans might have found the system problematic. I like the way that the enlarged prints, featuring a prominent and slightly ragged black hole, have adopted in the status of conceptual art. Thanks for commenting Soren.
